Teen Tzedakah Group

CHJ teens are passionate about making a difference. Our Teen Tzedakah Group is active throughout the school year, leading fundraising and other activities to alleviate hunger, protect the environment, and aid underserved communities both locally and abroad. Their activities often engage the Sunday school students and the congregation as a whole, inspiring us all to work toward social justice.

The Group gathers regularly for social action activities such as stuffing backpacks with school supplies each fall; tagging horseshoe crabs in Long Island Sound; conducting a fundraiser for Nothing But Nets, an NGO for malaria prevention; and raising awareness about food insecurity.

Our teens also participate in the Society for Humanistic Judaism’s youth program. Each year several attend its annual teen and college conference, where they connect with young Humanistic Jews from congregations throughout North America.
